SIGNATURE FLIGHT SUPPORT

BURKE LAKEFRONT AIRPORT, CLEVELAND, OHIO.

Rivers & Christian is the Architect-of-Record for a new, ground-up Fixed Base Operator (FBO) facility for Signature Flight Support at Burke – Lakefront Airport (BKL). Rivers & Christian working with Tammy Edmonds Design provided complete architectural and interior design services to execute the general aviation, one hangar FBO facility. The airport is situated on the shore of Lake Erie, in the Northeast part of downtown Cleveland Ohio, which started operations in 1947 with a 3,600 feet long dirt runway. The project is sited on a 4.2 acre Leasehold, which includes an 18,750 square foot aircraft hangar and 5,445 square foot one-story terminal building, customer parking, landscaping and aircraft ramp operations area. The Signature Flight Support terminal provides aircraft owners/passengers, reception/check-in, lounges, conference rooms, snack bar, restrooms, pilot lounge, flight planning, maintenance, and storage. The facility also provides Wi-Fi Access, secure parking, ground handling, shuttle service and on-site car rental.

Being located on the Shore of Lake Erie, the project is subject to lake effect extreme weather patterns and required the utilization of cold weather design strategies to provide a successful energy-efficient facility. The steel-framed terminal is clad in a glass storefront and cement board rain-screen system with an eighteen-foot high interior passenger lounge space and automobile porte cochere at the entrance. The pre-manufactured hangar is clad with gray insulated aluminum panels.
