TOM BRADLEY INTL. TERMINAL, LAX, CA.
One of the challenges of retail design in an airport terminal is maximizing the leasable footprint of the store while providing sufficient area for storage of goods out of sight of the customers. The design concept for Sanrio Surprises was to combine both needs for visual display and storage by a continuous surface that bends along the walls as it creates abstract shapes of its signature character Hello Kitty. Within the solid void spaces created by the ribbon we effectively created space for display, storage and to house utilities. The successful integration of concept with program requirements created one seamless space in the store.
